THE SMITH (HALTWHISTLE &
DISTRICT) CHARITABLE TRUST
EXAMPLES OF ACTIVITIES SUPPORTED BY THE TRUST
Since its inception the Trust has supported a wide range of charitable activities.
Several churches receive annual assistance, as do the activities of locally directed health charities and community groups. Sports clubs and a number of outdoors activities have benefited, and small capital projects are supported.
Below we provide a few examples of activities we have assisted.
The Calvert Trust: Calvert Kielder
The Calvert Trust: Calvert Kielder
Over the years, The Smith Trust has supported several projects at the Calvert Kielder including a canoe that now cruises on Kielder Water, and equipment enabling activities for the disabled who visit the Centre.
The Calvert Trust’s vision is to enable people with disabilities to benefit from outdoor activities in the countryside and on the water; Calvert Kielder is located in the Kielder Water & Forest Park, 20km north of Haltwhistle. Calvert Kielder welcomes families, groups and individuals on a residential and day visit basis and uniquely offers 24 hour respite care for adults travelling alone; over 5000 visitors benefited last year.
